Game Design
After seeing the theme “Built to scale” numerous ideas popped in our head. Seeing how our time limit was doubled compared to normal we went ahead and took our time deciding on an idea. After about 4 hours, we came up with a clever idea: what if we make a puzzle platformer game about rescaling objects that were built to a different scale. This idea led to multiple different design decisions like choosing to use Unity’s built in tilemap system, using rigidbody’s for the physics, making the game 2d, and (most crazily) making our own custom mouse for moving objects around in-game. We also choose to set our game in a laboratory since it would reduce the stress of making lots of art on a crunch and would fit the trial-like gameplay very well. Overall, many different game design decisions were made throughout the jam as we created Scalar.
